Stress, trauma, clenching your teeth, or a sudden impact can bring on TMJ jaw pain. It’s uncomfortable, and can also cause headaches, earaches, toothaches, and general throw-off-your-whole-mood pain. But if you’re thinking your only options are to “grin and bear it” or pop a painkiller, let us brighten your day: massage can help!

There are 3 muscles surrounding the joint in your jaw. You’ve probably already tried massaging your cheek, but there’s one muscle that is more accessible from inside the mouth. A registered massage therapist can, using a latex-free glove, massage your jaw muscles from both sides of the cheek. There are a variety of techniques that can help stop the pain cycle and relax the muscles so you can “aah” (stretch open your mouth), yawn, chew, and swallow without discomfort.

Some of these muscles radiate around the circumference of your head, and up to your temples. If you’re suffering, put your head in good hands and come visit us for a TMJ jaw massage!
