It’s a recovery workout with a registered kinesiologist, and your ICBC Accident Benefits fully cover (most of) you for up to 24 sessions. Karly: “I missed a whole semester.”
My concussion was so severe, I had to take a semester off school.
Getting rear-ended derailed my life for the next 3 months. I was in constant pain. Headaches lasted all day. But everything and everyone around me was still in motion: my friends moved on, moved forward. All my classmates in the program finished, wrote the exam. Passed. Found jobs.
The hardest part was dealing with the emotional isolation.
Tess: “I was rear-ended. Twice.”
I was two months postpartum. My van was brand new, as old as my 2-month old son. I had rotated to shoulder check when I was rear-ended, which messed up my whole left side. Injured hip, shoulder pain, massive migraines, whiplash, damaged thumb tendon...
7 months later, October 2019, I was finished my physio sessions with Kyle. Most of my injuries were better. I even tried a hike with the family—had to turn back halfway, but it was so much better than where I'd been before, when I couldn't stand or even sit in the same position for more than a few minutes. I was on the mend.
And then…
How can I extend the benefits of my massage?
Post massage: you might be wondering, “Now what? I run through the rain to my car (because: Vancouver), drive through stressful traffic (because: Vancouver), and come home to a sink full of dishes (because: life), dinner to cook, bills and chores? I guess relaxing time is over!”
Hang on—there are some things we can recommend to help extend the massage experience, and help your body stay relaxed and rejuvenated.
Do I have to disrobe for a massage?
At the beginning of your appointment, our registered massage therapists will suggest that you change out of—or arrange—your clothing as much as you are comfortable. They will exit the treatment room to give you ample time to do so. Would you prefer that we massage through your clothing? Absolutely, we can do that.
Is it bad to sleep on my stomach?
Stomach sleeping can be SO comfortable, and can reduce snoring… but is it healthy? Well, not for your back or your neck. So no. Sorry.
Should I stop exercising after an accident?
The last thing you might feel like doing is exercise, for fear that you might make your injuries worse. But it’s important not to become completely sedentary.
